Relax--Discovery and Exploration is Incredible

I would like to thank everyone for helping us complete another successful year here at ABE.  I hope everyone learned a little bit from our two-day professional development training.  This year we're going to face many challenges with the new GED 2014.  However, I'm confident we'll overcome these barriers and help many, many students.  It is our belief that the new test will expand their skills and make them smarter and more employable.

Well---prepare to get a little busier for the Fall 2013 Semester!  The NM Youth Challenge Program will be recruiting 140 students.  Presently, we just serving 50 students a semester--with great results in a great partnership.  We'll need to beef up our staffing and be investigating how to implement the changes with the GED.  I'm confident we'll figure it out.  Just think, less than two years ago they're were going to close it down.  Thanks to everyone who made the calls and wrote the letters to keep this program alive.

KhanAcademy.org

Do you know about www.khanacademy.org?  If you need help with Math or many other subjects, it's a great site.  I used it and now I'm smarter!

ENMU-Roswell Work-Study Student Melissa Smiles at incoming students.  Without work-studies the ENMU-Roswell ABE program could not function.  We really appreciate their hard work and dedication to helping people earn either their GED or improve their English.

Post-Test Contest Winner

ESL student Zola Arnero stands next to her teacher, Ernestina Archuleta, and ABE Director Todd DeKay as they present her with a new Dell computer netbook.  From April 15th until June 10, 2011, the ENMU-Roswell ABE program had a contest to encourage students to come in and take a post-test to show us what they've learned.  Over 150 people took advantage of the opportunity to not only show what they knew but also put their name in jar for a drawing.  In addition to the netbook grand prize, 15 Extra Value Meal Tickets were given out to lucky winners courtesy of  Mcdonald's manager, John Snowberger, who provided the tickets at a very reduced cost.  Thanks to everyone who helped out on this project.
